Abstract

Guidance and counselling which are two inseparable entities are sources and means of providing direction or advice on decision-making or course of action. Islam views guidance and counselling as sources and means of achieving the best in all human endeavours since without proper guidance, one may be dissuaded or completely swayed off the track. More often than not, Guidance and counselling are seen as western concepts even by Muslims who are not aware that Islam has a lot to offer in terms of Guidance and counselling; and that Islam has laid down principles and guidelines for Guidance and counselling. The aim of this study therefore is to showcase the Islamic concept of Guidance and counselling. The study adopts exegetical and analytical research methods. The findings reveal that contrary to the misconceptions in certain quarters, Islam has elaborate guiding principles that could provide directions and serve as pieces of advice on decision-making. The study concludes that for Muslims to maximize the benefits of Islam's Guidance and counselling principles, they need to be more conversant with the Qur'an and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad.
